Austin pastry chef faces major criminal charges after car crash

635488399614566419-635488090559470360-Speer-Philip-6-12-77-Thirty-seven-year-old Phillip Speer, who is among Austin, Texas’s most prominent pastry chefs, is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of the accident.  According to reports, he allegedly caused a car accident on Friday, October 10 in North Austin, resuling in his car sprawled on the grass after he entered a ditch. According to the website of Ian Inglis, Austin criminal defense lawyer, charges such as these are often aggressively pursued by Texas law enforcement officials, and can carry extremely harsh penalties if an individual is convicted.

The scene of the accident and Speer’s subsequent was near Anderson Lane and Cameron Road. Various media outlets covered the event including KVUE-TV, CultureMapAustin American-Statesman, and the Houston Chronicle.

The Uchi restaurant group, of which Speer is a part of, released the following statement regarding Speer’s arrest: “We recognize and support his entrance into recovery as well as acknowledging he will need to deal with the consequences of his actions.”
